Dr. Mary McKinney

Medical Director

Dr. Mary McKinney grew up in the rural intermountain west, growing up in California, Wyoming, and Nevada and receiving her B.A. in English from Carroll College in Helena, Montana. She then began a 20-year career in the U.S. Air Force as a Military Intelligence Officer retiring at the rank of Major. Veterinary Medicine was always her first love, and at the close of her military career, she went back to school to pursue her Veterinary Medical degree.

After graduating from Veterinary School at Washington State University in 2005, she began practice in mixed animal medicine. But when Dr. McKinney was introduced to International Veterinary Medicine and spay/neuter missions she most definitely found one of her passions in the field and began her practice focus on small animal medicine and surgery. She has been a surgeon on trips to the Dominican Republic, Hawaii, Ecuador on 2 separate trips, and helped in the planning of a veterinary clinic in the Galapagos. Dr. McKinney owned and operated her own clinic in Northern Idaho for about 4 years continuing her work with several local pet rescue organizations and partnering with Alley Cat Allies and PetSmart Charities on several grant projects. An accomplished soft tissue surgeon, Dr. McKinney started a certification in 2021 with Chi University in the Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) Herbalist program and found a new passion in the power of integrative medicine. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, the World Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Multicultural Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. McKinney’s primary hobby is her horse and learning the art of dressage riding. She has been married to her husband Jim for 30+ years and they are also caretakers for her 95-year-old father Jake. Their human kids are all grown but they now have 3 Boston Terriers, 2 cats, and an Eclectus parrot.

Dr. Niamh Hart

Veterinarian, Fear Free Certified Professional

Dr. Niamh Hart received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota in 2021 after completing a Bachelor’s in Biology and Environmental Studies at Florida State University in 2017. During vet school, she enjoyed a large breadth of study – including small animal medicine, large animal medicine, and wildlife rehab and research.

The integral role her family dogs played in her upbringing led to an immense appreciation for the bond between pet and owner; the joys of working in primary care are founded in supporting and sharing in this companionship each and every day. In general practice, Dr. Hart’s special interests are diagnostic imaging – specifically ultrasound, as well as dermatology and compassionate end-of-life care. Additionally, she is “Fear Free” certified to minimize patient stress in the hospital better.

While Dr. Hart actually enjoyed the cold and snowy winters of Minnesota, her native state of Florida called her home to family, friends, and – of course – the beaches! Outside of work, she enjoys reading, making art, and exploring all that Florida nature has to offer. Dr. Hart and her Lab mix, Boru, are excited to be a part of the Econ River community and to get to know you and your pet(s).
